Quivering wings spread,
contemplate heavens above,
unleash your ethos!
Elucidation:
The lifecycle of Dragonflies consists of three stages: egg, nymph and adult. The dragonfly spends most of its life in its aquatic nymph form, living in fresh water ponds and placid spots in streams. Depending upon the species and climate of the region, the nymph stage may last up to 4 years whereas the adult form – the winged dragonfly that we are familiar with – may live for only about 2 to 4 months.
Thus nothing embodies the spirit of living life in the present, unconstrained, unselfconscious, and to the fullest, more than the hovering, soaring, gliding dragonfly! Somewhere inside it, is encoded the destiny that it will eventually fulfill; but nothing can prevent it from wanting to touch the sky…

I love Dragonflies. They hover like a helicopter, go forward, up & down. I never cease to be amazed by their beauty.

It has to evolve for so many years to reach to the final stage.
wow that’s just amazing

And, if the season is not right, especially in the temperate regions, the nymph waits till it is spring to finally molt into an adult! As I often say, Swati, nature never ceases to surprise!
Thanks for reading. 🙂

Ah! One from Aarey Forest and what a fantastic one….Did I see this on Instagram? Looks so amazing here. Must have been tough to click a hyperactive dragonfly in that position.

Thank you, Neelanjana, for catching up on reading my posts despite your hectic schedule. 🙏🏻
Yes, it’s one of the rewards of last Sunday. I did post it to Insta simultaneously.
Ha ha… It does give one a reality check of our patience as a self-proclaimed photographer, a dragonfly! And finding one which stays still upon landing is a gift! 🙂

A lovely image, and an excellent haiku. If I’ve learned anything about dragonflies, it’s about how much patience it takes to get a good image. You did well!

I was terrified of dragonflies as a child, but not so much now. There is a superficial resemblance between them and hummingbirds (which I see all the time where I live) as they whiz by.

Wow; I envy you for that, Ma’am! We don’t have hummingbirds in India. But we do have 13 species of sunbirds, which are equally fascinating. 🙂

Beautiful post and photo, Narendra. The Dragonfly is so very beautiful and has mysticism attached to it. I am so happy when it arrives in the garden and sit near so you can delight in these sheer wings.
